Bitgold On-Chain Governance Voting: An Advocate’s Guide

Introduction

Key opinion leaders — Bitgold Advocates — hold significant influence within the Bitgold Network community. Participating in on-chain governance helps the network evolve in a truly decentralized way. By maximizing your voting power, you can amplify your community’s voice and drive positive change.

How to increase voting power

As a community leader, there are two primary ways to strengthen your governance influence:

  1. Increase your BTG holdings. The more BTG you hold in your wallet, the more voting power you have.
  2. Receive delegated BTG. Encourage community members to delegate their voting power to you. This lets you vote on their behalf and increases your overall influence in governance.

Steps to gain more voting power from your community

  1. Educate and advocate. Explain why on-chain governance matters and how it lets the community shape the future of Bitgold Network. Make the benefits of delegating to you as a trusted leader clear.
  2. Share proposals and insights. Regularly comment on upcoming proposals and explain how they may affect the community. Encourage your followers to join the discussion.
  3. Simplify delegation. Make delegation as easy as possible. Provide clear step-by-step instructions.
  4. Communicate transparently. Keep your community informed about how you intend to use delegated voting power and why you vote the way you do.
  5. Build trust. Demonstrate a consistent commitment to your community’s interests and to the health of the Bitgold Network ecosystem.

Delegation steps to share with your followers

  1. Open the governance area of the Bitgold app.
  2. Connect your wallet and choose your preferred wallet provider.
  3. Open the Delegation section and click Delegate.
  4. Choose one of two options:
    • Delegate to self: keep direct control of your voting power and vote on proposals yourself.
    • Delegate to another address: enter the wallet address of the person or entity you want to represent you.
  5. Review the details, click Delegate, and sign the transaction in your wallet.
  6. After the transaction confirms, check Votes or My Delegates to verify that the delegation succeeded.

Important considerations

  • BTG staking: the more BTG you stake with validators, the greater your voting power.
  • Delegated BTG: the more holders delegate to you, the greater your voting power.
  • Timing: voting power is snapshotted for each proposal. Delegate before a proposal is created if you want your weight counted.
