How to upgrade the Bitgold node

Upgrading is straightforward: download the new Bitgold node release for your platform, stop the node, replace the binary, and start it again with the same command. The node reuses the existing data directory and syncs any blocks produced while it was stopped.

Step 1: Get the new release

Download the pre-built binary for your platform from the official Bitgold Network distribution channel, or build from the release source if you maintain your own build:

make geth

Step 2: Stop the node

pid=`ps -ef | grep geth | grep -v grep | awk '{print $2}'`
kill $pid

Wait for the process to exit cleanly before replacing the binary.

Step 3: Replace the binary

Back up the old binary and config, then move the new geth into place. Keep genesis.json and config.toml unless the release notes require an update.

Check release notes

Some releases require a config change or a coordinated hard fork. Always read the release notes and upgrade before the announced fork block.

Step 4: Restart

Use the same start command as before the upgrade, for example:

./geth --config ./config.toml --datadir ./node --cache 10000 \
  --rpc.allow-unprotected-txs --history.transactions 0 --history.logs 576000

Note: Consider adding --history.logs.disable for better performance, but eth_getLogs will be slower.
